Welcome, my lovely ladies, to the Glow Up Guide Collective! If you’re a millennial woman who's finally ready to embrace your true self, break free from self-doubt, and step into your ultimate power, then you’ve clicked on the right blog post. I’m Morgan Bruner, your personal growth bestie and self-improvement coach. Together, we'll navigate the mental waters to help you boost your confidence and create a life that genuinely excites you.

If you're done playing small and are ready to embody your authentic, thriving self, let's dive right in. Picture this: you, me, and a soul-nurturing chat. Grab your coziest drink and let’s get started.

Let’s Talk Overthinking

First, a quick question. How many of you have replayed the same conversation 10 times in your head, or found yourself frozen in decision-making over almond milk vs. oat milk, as if your morning routine depended on it? You’re not alone I promise! At one time, I was the crowned queen of overthinking. It wasn't cute, let me tell you. Whether it was questioning every word I said or every decision I made, it was a constant emotional whirlpool.

But here’s the secret: once I learned to dial down that chatter, tap into my intuition, and trust my voice, everything changed. Let’s explore together why we overthink and how to break this cycle to make confident, peaceful decisions.

What Even Is Overthinking?

Think of overthinking as a mental tornado. It spins relentlessly but doesn’t actually go anywhere. You might find yourself repeatedly replaying past conversations or procrastinating on decisions because you're terrified of choosing wrong. You might also be someone who constantly seeks others’ advice for validation. But here’s the truth: overthinking is wearing the disguise of careful logic when it's really just fear holding us back.

The great news? Overthinking is a habit, not your destiny, and habits can change. So why do we do it in the first place?

Why Do We Doubt Ourselves?

  • Fear of Mistakes: Society tells us that every choice must be flawless, paralyzing our movement completely. Remember, growth isn't about being perfect it's about trying.

  • Seeking Approval: Many of us learned to value others’ opinions over our own from a young age. But the truth is, your inner voice is more powerful than any external validation.

  • Experiences with Doubt: Past pain may have created a wall of protective doubt. Your brain is just trying to shield you from repeating the hurt, but it’s also keeping you from your best life.

Five Steps to Stop Overthinking

Let's break free with these tips to quiet your mind and trust yourself:

  • Catch the Thought Spiral: Awareness is key. When spiraling, acknowledge it out loud: "I'm overthinking right now, and I don’t have to." Journaling can also help you spot patterns and work on deeper issues.

  • Flip the Worst-Case Scenario: What’s the worst that could happen? Now, what’s the best? Flipping your thinking opens doors for possibility and clarity.

  • Tune Into Your Body: Your body knows more than you think. Are you tense or uneasy? Take deep breaths and focus on what feels right not what seems safe.

  • Make Quick Decisions: Start with tiny decisions without second-guessing or asking 10 people for approval. Small steps build strong self-trust.

  • Ditch The Right or Wrong Illusion: Consider every decision as information, not a test. Mistakes simply redirect you, so embrace them as part of your journey.

A Personal Note

After emerging from a challenging marriage and navigating life with my daughter as a single mom, I struggled to trust my own decisions. But listening to my gut, little by little, realigned my life. When I tuned back into my inner voice, I found strength and freedom like never before.

Remember, you’ve already got the wisdom inside you. It’s just about listening closely enough to hear it.

Thank you for joining me on this heartfelt journey today. I hope this blog inspired you to trust yourself more than your fears, because, my dear friend, your peace starts precisely there.
