Hey love, welcome back to a space where healing meets softness, and where personal growth becomes self-liberation. Today, I want to share something deeply personal and deeply universal: breaking the trauma cycle. Because so often, the weight we carry isn’t even ours, it’s generational, inherited, and silently shaping how we live, love, and see ourselves.

You are not broken for feeling heavy. You are not dramatic for craving rest. You are not weak for wanting softness. You’re human. And if you’ve ever wondered why you react the way you do, sabotage yourself, or feel disconnected even when life looks “fine” on the outside, this is for you.

What the Trauma Cycle Really Looks Like

When we think of trauma, we imagine big events. But trauma isn’t just about what happened, it’s about what happened inside of us as a result.

  • It’s the fear stored in your body.
  • It’s the belief that says, “I’m not safe being seen.”
  • It’s the nervous system that still thinks it’s in survival mode.
I used to believe trauma only counted if it was something massive. But I realized I had been abandoning myself for years, overworking, overthinking, over-giving. Beneath it all was a little girl who believed:

  • If I’m not perfect, I’ll be left.
  • If I rest, I’ll fall behind.
  • If I speak my truth, I’ll lose love.
And that is trauma, too.

The cycle can show up as:
  • A constant need for control
  • Fear of abandonment
  • Numbing out instead of expressing your feelings
  • Over giving to feel worthy
  • Always choosing peace for others but never for yourself

And here’s the truth: much of this isn’t even ours. Many of us were raised by women who survived, but never had the chance to heal. Their survival became our blueprint. But love, you weren’t born to just survive. You were born to live.

Signs You’re Carrying Hidden or Generational Trauma

Trauma doesn’t always scream, it whispers.

It sounds like:
  • “Don’t get too comfortable, this won’t last.”
  • “Don’t speak up, you’ll be too much.”
  • “Don’t slow down, you’ll fall behind.”

It looks like:

  • Feeling guilty when you rest
  • Staying in relationships to avoid abandonment
  • Playing small in your career
  • Apologizing when you’ve done nothing wrong
  • Refusing to ask for help because independence feels safer

Underneath the productivity and “strength,” your soul may be asking quietly: Can I just be soft? Can I stop performing? Can I finally be held? That question, love, is where healing begins.

How to Start Healing & Breaking the Cycle

Breaking free isn’t about doing it all at once, it’s about small, consistent choices.

1. Name What’s Not Yours
Pause and ask: “Is this mine, or inherited?” The awareness alone is powerful.
2. Create Safety in Your Body
Your body must feel safe before your mind can release survival. Try:
Deep breathing
Grounding with your hand on your chest: “I am safe now.”
Warm tea without distractions
3. Reparent Your Inner Child
Speak gently to the little one inside you:
“You’re allowed to feel. You’re allowed to rest. I won’t abandon you.”

4. Break the Rules That Keep You Small
You don’t have to be the strong one all the time. You don’t have to earn rest. You don’t have to silence your truth. Start with one boundary, one brave no, one pause.

You Are the Cycle Breaker

Being the one who says “It ends with me” isn’t easy. But it is holy work. Every time you:
  • Rest when you were taught to hustle
  • Speak when you were taught to be silent
  • Choose joy when others chose survival
…you heal not just yourself, but generations before and after you.

You are not broken, love. You are the cycle breaker. And that is your liberation.

Closing:
Place your hand on your heart and breathe in this truth:
“I am no longer surviving, I am becoming.”
